The abstract geometric designs engraved on this bracelet are historic and traditional creative expressions of Lakota women. It was the women who portrayed the beauty of nature, the landscape, clouds, the cosmos, flora and fauna. They decorated their homes, utilitarian objects (Parfleche boxes) and clothing with such designs.
Lakota men expressed their world view in more of a pictorial nature. Jhon allowed the banded agates to influence the direction in the creation of this piece, inspiring him to use these abstract geometric designs, “all while believing that these timeless agates also influenced the creative expressions of my ancestors with their colored and fortified banding.”
